1. Hammer  : Hammers are made of the forged materials. Hammer is used to strike the work piece  or tool. They are available in various shape and size according to the jobs. A suitable range from 0.11 kg to 0.33 kg for light work, 0.45 kg for chiseling 0.91 kg for heavier work such as chipping. Hammer consist of four main parts

Ball Pein hammer: This is the most common hammer used on board the ship. This hammer sometimes called engineer’s hammer. The pein of this hammer has the shape like a ball which is hardener and polished. This hammer mostly used for riveting and chipping purpose. The weight of this hammer is approximately 0.11 kg to 0.91 kg. 

Cross Pein hammer: This is a similar to ball pein hammer. This hammer has shape and size except the pein which is across the shaft or eye. This is mainly used for benching stretching hammering in to shoulders inside curves etc. The size of this hammer is 0.91 kg.

Straight Pein hammer: The hammer has a pein straight with the shaft such that parallel to the axis of the shaft. This is used for stretching or peining the metal. the size varies from 0.11 kg to 0.91 kg.

Claw Hammer: The claw hammer is mostly used by the carpenters or in carpentry jobs. The carpenter more often favors the claw hammer. These hammer are made in numbers of the size from 0.37 kg to 0.69 kg.

Riveting Hammer: This hammer is used for riveted the sharp material basically this is type of hammer used for rivet the bolts. 

Raising Hammer: Raising hammer used for forming of a flat sheet of the metal in to a curved and hollow shape such as a bowl tray or spoon.

Set Hammer: A set hammer is used for finishing corner shouldered of work where the flatter would be inconvenience. This hammer is also used for drawing out.  

Soft Hammer: Soft hammer is necessary to strike metal a blow with the minimum damage to the surface. A soft hammer normally made by soft plastic. Sometimes it also called as mallet bu mallet is made by rubber or wooden. 

Sledge Hammer: This hammer is used for heavy work. It is very heavy in weight and it strike very heavy. 

Chipping Hammer: Chipping hammer is made  by the iron material. This is used for chiiping after welding or before welding to prepare surface.

2. Chisel: Chisel is used to cutting the metal and for making prior to breaking. They may be hot or cold depends on properties of chisel. The main deference between these two is in edge. The edge of cold chisel is hardener and tempered with an angle of about 60 degree whilst the edge of hot chisel is 30 degree and the hardening is not necessary. The edge is made slightly rounded for better cutting action
