Aims:

1. Identify different types of hammer.

2. What is the use of hammers?

Requirement for performing the task:

1. Reference of the theory from text book.

2. Reference of instructor’s notes

Precaution to be observed: 

 Use a claw hammer for pulling nails. 

 Do not strike nails or other objects with the cheek of the hammer. 

 Do not strike a hardened steel surface, such as a cold chisel, with a claw hammer. 

 Do not strike one hammer against another hammer. 

 Do not use a hammer if your hands are oily, greasy or wet. 

 Do not use a hammer as a wedge or a pry bar, or for pulling large spikes. 

 Use only the sledge-type hammer on a striking face wrench. 

 Do not use a hatchet as a hammer. 

 Do not use hammers with rounded, mushroomed, or damaged heads.

are used for heavy work. They can be seen in both single-face and double-face

2. BALL
PEEN HAMMER
: The head of
the hammer is made of hardened steel. The handle is of hardwood.
The flat portion of the head is called the face, and the other
end is known as the pein.

 


 

3. CLAW HAMMER:
The claw hammer is used for driving and pulling nails.

the soft metal
