What is a torque wrench and where it is used?Ans: Torque wrench is special type of spanner by which any nuts and bolts can be tightening by specified torque. After the torque reaches the specified limits it will slip on its own, their by preventing the nuts and bolts from over tightened. Normally this wrench is used to tighten the cylinder head bolts and bearing bolts in generator engine. Q19. State the importance of maintenance. What is mean by preventive maintenance? Ans: Maintenance is required to prevent breakdown of machinery. Preventive maintenance is by PMS (plan maintenance system) which is based on running hours of machine. Maintenance must be done after some running hours of machinery according to the maker instructions.Q20. What basic safety precaution to be observed while carrying out maintenance on any machinery. Ans: Permission must be taken before any maintenance. Wear PPE isolating the machinery by shutting the valves, switching off electrical power and put “Men at work” notice. Check no pressure inside by opening vent valves etc. Q21. What are the personal protective equipment to be used while carrying out general maintenance? Ans: Safety helmet, Safety shoes, boiler suit, Safety goggle, gloves, nose mask etc. Q22. How will you know safe working load (SWL) of chain hoists, wire slings, shackles and eye bolts. Ans: SWL stenciling must be there on the body of each lifting device. Q23. What special precaution to be observed while working with the portable electrical machines/ equipment. Ans: portable electrical instrument must be healthy conditions. Electrical terminal must be well connected. Insulation of the cable must be in good condition. Portable tools must be firmly connected.
