B.Tech in Marine Engineering

B.Tech (Marine Engineering)

B.Tech marine engineering course is conducted by various colleges in India which are affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai.

This course is duly recognised and approved by the Directorate General of Shipping and AICTE.

Candidates become eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior / trainee engineer after completing B.Tech( Marine) and mandatory STCW courses. After 6 months of sea service on board merchant vessels, they become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV (Certificate of Competency) COC is awarded by the MMD (Mercantile Marine Department), Government of India.

Subsequently, they become Certified Engineer officers of Merchant Ships and are free to take up responsibilities within the Shipping industry world-wide.

ELIGIBILITY

10+2 with PCM 60% aggregate marks from recognised Board or university. Minimum 50% marks in English at 12th is must. Candidate must be understand and speak English language at basic level. 

AGE CRITERIA

Minimum Age: 17 Years at the time of admission

Maximum Age : For Male : Gen-25 Years, OBC(NCL)-28 Years, SC/ST -30 Years

                          : For Female: Gen-27 Years, OBC(NCL)-30 Years, SC/ST -32 Years

MEDICAL FITNESS

Candidate must be fit as per ILO Medical Convention 147 Seafarers medical examination.

Eyesight: 6/6 with or without external aids. Maximum poer permitted + – 2.5 with  No color blindness.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Candidate must clear the IMU-CET Examination held at all India Level. Candidate can choose the Institute during the counseling as per merit list candidate get the preference.
