Task- Identify
& use bulldog grips, demonstrate joining of 2 wires with bulldog grips,
bottle screws, & wire lashings for securing cargo

Description/precaution
Bulldog
grips
Ø Bulldog
grips are used to make an eye or join two wire ropes in case splicing cannot be
performed
Ø The ‘u’ of
the grip must be placed on the dead end of the wire rope
Ø The distance
between the grips should be about six times the rope diamter
Ø The tail
should be whipped or bound to prevent it unraveling
Ø The number
of grips used depends on the diameter of the rope but at least three should be
used for wires up to 19mm & more for thicker wires.
Bottle
screws:
Ø It is a
device for adjusting the tension or length of ropes, cables, tie rods &
other tensioning systems
Ø Ihe threads
of the bottle screws should always be well greased
Ø Do not paint
the threads
Ø Always use
the correct size of bottle screws so that sufficient threads are left for
tightening the bottle screw when required
