Head to be firmly fitted

Do not carry tools in the pocket. Do not
keep tools near the wire or socked.

 

Q2. What is the use of vernier
caliper?

Ans:  Measuring length, depth, inside diameter,
outside diameter

Q3. What is the use of micrometer
(inside / outside)?

Ans:
Inside micrometer is use to check the inside diameter Ex. Liner diameter

         Outside micrometer is use to check the
outside diameter EX. Crankpin diameter

 

Q 4. What is the importance of
using proper tools?

Ans:
Using improper size of spanner can cause human injury due to slips and nuts and

         Bolts can be damaged permanently.             

 

Q5. How to open a nut if has become
round.

Ans:
round nut can be filed to make rectangular or it can be open by blunt chisel.
Small pipe wrench and monkey spanner also we can use.

 

Q6. How to remove a stud from a place
it is fitted?

Ans:  one nut
to be fitted first, then other nuts to be tightens on the top of that nut and
then stud can be opened by spanner fitted on bottom nut.

Q7. How to remove a stud if it is
broken?

Ans:
A broken stud can be removed by drilling and stud extractor and also we can use
a pipe wrench.

used on lathe machine?

Ans:
Various cutting tools, Thread chaser, grooving tools, knurling tools.

carried out on lathe machine?

Ans:
Straight turning, Shoulder turning, Chamfering, Thread cutting, Grooving,

Ans:
It is use to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts.

Ans:
It is use to remove cotter pin, snap rings circlips.

Ans:
t is use to tighten screw and remove.

Q13. What is the use of screw
spanner or adjustable spanner?

Ans:
It can be used for different sizes (nuts and bolts)

 

Q14. What is the use of Allen keys?

Ans:
Used for special bolts with internal hexagonal head.

 

Q15. What is the difference between
Bench and Pipe vice?

Ans:  In bench vice fitting, assembled of parts
normally done on the bench. But pipe vice is used for holding round section
metal, tubes, pipes etc.

 

Q16. What are the various pneumatic
and hydraulic tools?

Ans:
Pneumatic tools are run by compressed air. Example – chipping machine, portable
grinder, spray painting machine, greasing machine.

 

Hydraulic
oil pumping is done by hand pump or small electrical motor. It is normally used
for cylinder head nuts, bearing bolts tightening or loosening, hydraulic jacks
for lifting heavy items etc.

 

 

Q17. What are the different types
of hammers used on board ship?

Ans:  ball peen hammer, Cross peen hammer, Straight
peen hammer, Soft hammer, Chipping hammer, Claw hammer and Sludge hammer.

 

Q18. What is a torque wrench and
where it is used?

Ans:
Torque wrench is special type of spanner by which any nuts and bolts can be
tightening by specified torque. After the torque reaches the specified limits
it will slip on its own, their by preventing the nuts and bolts from over
tightened. Normally this wrench is used to tighten the cylinder head bolts and
bearing bolts in generator engine. 

 

Q19. State the importance of
maintenance. What is mean by preventive maintenance?

Ans:
Maintenance is required to prevent breakdown of machinery. Preventive
maintenance is by PMS (plan maintenance system) which is based on running hours
of machine. Maintenance must be done after some running hours of machinery
according to the maker instructions.

Q20. What basic safety precaution
to be observed while carrying out maintenance on any machinery.

Ans:
Permission must be taken before any maintenance. Wear PPE isolating the
machinery by shutting the valves, switching off electrical power and put “Men
at work” notice. Check no pressure inside by opening vent valves etc.

 

Q21. What are the personal
protective equipment to be used while carrying out general maintenance?

Ans:
Safety helmet, Safety shoes, boiler suit, Safety goggle, gloves, nose mask etc.

 

Q22. How will you know safe working
load (SWL) of chain hoists, wire slings, shackles and eye bolts.

Ans:
SWL stenciling must be there on the body of each lifting device.

 

Q23. What special precaution to be
observed while working with the portable electrical machines/ equipment.

Ans:
portable electrical instrument must be healthy conditions. Electrical terminal
must be well connected. Insulation of the cable must be in good condition.
Portable tools must be firmly connected.
